According to news from Hong Kong, a man was allegedly beaten outside a movie theatre for loudly revealing major Avengers: Endgame spoilers.
A report from Asia One states that the assault happened outside a theater in Causeway Bay, HongKong. The man was assaulted by patrons waiting outside the theater in revenge for shouting spoilers.
However, the reported attack has not been authenticated. Asia One observes that there has been a number of commenters on social media who claim to have personally seen the attack happen.
The movie’s directors Anthony and Joe Russo had earlier issued a letter exhorting fans to maintain the mystery for those moviegoers who are yet to watch the “surprising and emotionally powerful” end of the current phase of the MCU.
“Because so many of you have invested your time, your hearts, and your souls into these stories, we’re once again asking for your help,” the letter reads. “When you see Endgame in the coming weeks, please don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it spoiled for you. Remember, Thanos still demands your silence.”
The sequel to Avengers: Infinity War has been so stuffed with spoilers that the Marvel Studios had to relaunch an anti spoiler campaign #DontSpoilTheEndgame, asking film viewers to keep the movie’s major secrets hidden from future audiences.
“This one has even more spoilers than the last one,” Director Joe Russo told Box Office Pro.
“This is a culture that wants everything now, and it’s getting worse. The world is connected via social media, and information travels within seconds. If you’ve been following along with this narrative for 10 years, you’re going to want to protect yourself. It’s best to go in clean. I encourage people to go opening weekend because I’m sure everything is going to hit the Internet the moment the movie hits the screen.”
Seesms like the audiences have followed their advice and Endgame is set for a possible $1 billion opening weekend globally. In the domestic market, Endgame earned $60 million in Thursday night early screenings, overtaking the $57 milion pocketed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December 2015.
Even before its release in the US theatres, Endgame’s international performance placed it among the top ten earning films of 2019 globally until now.
Avengers: Endgame has to go past The LEGO Movie: The Second Part ($189 million), Us and Glass (both $247 million), Dumbo ($310 million), Shazam! (326 million), Alita: Battle Angel ($404 million), How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ($515 million), The Wandering Earth ($699 million), and Marvel’s own Captain Marvel ($1.094 billion) to become the highest grossing film of 2019.
The next Marvel Studios production is going to be Spider-Man: Far From Home releasing on July 2nd, 2019.
