Directors Of Avengers: Endgame Reveal That Thanos’ Sword Was Made Of [Spoiler]

Thanos’ sword in Avengers: Endgame had caught the attention of a lot of the fans, and many had been asking what it was made of. During a live Q&A known as “An Evening with Joe Russo,” the interviewer, Brandon Davis had spoken about Thanos’ weapon. While the previous movie had involved the Gauntlet that Thanos had Eitri make, the movie had the Mad Titan from the past bring in a double bladed sword. Before the movie had released, the fans thought it was an iteration of the Infinity Sword.

Joe Russo had said that the Metal for the sword had come from the weapon forging planet, i.e. Nidavellir:

“Clearly Thanos is a thousand-year-old character who has fought everyone in the universe and is the greatest: He’s the Genghis Khan of the universe, so he would have the greatest weapon. He knows of Eitri; he’s been to Eitri to have his glove created. Did he have them create his blade as well? Potentially. But it’s interesting that it could destroy the shield.”

Going back to Thanos, there had been more than what had met the eye. Joe Russo had given the fans an insight into the 10 minutes of Thanos’ backstory that had been cut from the movie. He had been asked whether there was more of Thanos that the fans could have gotten:

“Of course. We did a lot of drafts of Infinity War that involved Thanos’s backstory. We even had a draft where you saw ten minutes of his backstory. You saw him as a child; you saw him try to convince his planet that it was doomed and recommend that they randomly kill half the population to save the planet. He gets sent to a prison off-planet and eventually watches the planet destroy itself….It is a whole other film, but sometimes that’s the value in a story room, of writing that draft in the script because you go ‘alright, at least I have that in my brain now. And I understand that, and I can pitch it to Brolin, and he can hear that intimate level of detail, so we all know what his story is and how he feels about his past. He’s a very tortured character who’s sociopathic, but ultimately it is benevolent sociopathy.”

Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Brolin, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd, Samuel L.
